Motor Insurance Bureau

The Motor Insurance Bureau was established to provide a means for victims of road accidents to obtain compensation

When a claim is made against the driver of a vehicle, or the individual who has caused the accident (the “Defendant”) the compensation awarded to the person making the claim (the “Claimant”), is usually paid by the Defendant’s insurance company. However, it is sometimes the case that the driver of the vehicle that caused the accident is uninsured or unidentified.

This does not necessarily mean that you will be unable to make a claim for personal injuries. The Motor Insurance Bureau (the MIB) was established to provide a means for victims of road accidents to obtain compensation from accidents caused by uninsured or untraced drivers.

Even if you have had a “hit and run” accident you are entitled to make an application for compensation to the MIB.

There are various technicalities that need to be addressed when making a claim to the MIB and we recommend that you contact us to discuss your needs if you have been hit by an uninsured or untraced driver.
